Many rural markets in Portugal are either run by foreigners or are too insular for outsiders to join. Mercado do Campo aims to change that.

By creating an inclusive, warm, and authentically Portuguese market, we invite both locals and newcomers to feel at home. We honor the wisdom of Portuguese elders, the work of small-scale farmers, and the creativity of artisans—while welcoming fresh ideas, second-hand exchanges, and cultural bridges that make a community stronger.

We want this to be a place of trade, yes—but also of gathering, of sharing knowledge, of passing down traditions, of making connections.

Fresh, Local, & Organic Produce – Farmers from the region selling their homegrown fruits, vegetables, honey, olive oil, and wine, straight from the land to the table.

 Seeds Market & Plant Exchange – Trade, buy, or gift heirloom seeds and seedlings. Learn the art of seed-saving, a practice as old as time itself. (This is one of the most important aspects of the market, as it supports long-term biodiversity and community food resilience.)

 Handmade & Artisanal Goods – Locally crafted jewelry, clothes, soaps, ceramics, and natural beauty products made with love.

 Second-Hand & Vintage Treasures – Clothes, furniture, books, and decor ready for a new story in a new home.

 Street Performers & Pop-Up Music – Musicians, storytellers, and artists setting up in the village to perform “for the hat,” creating a spontaneous, festival-like atmosphere.
